Reliability Focused Maintenance (RFM) provides optimum levels of maintenance to ensure maximum asset life cycle at sustained levels of safety, quality and output. Performance Consulting Associates (PCA) helps clients to realize the full potential of these programs to maximize equipment life and to minimize scheduled and unscheduled downtime by implementing Preventive and Predictive Maintenance programs.

Preventive maintenance is applying proactive methodologies and procedures to time based maintenance. PM programs in themselves do not provide the necessary tools to evaluate their own effectiveness. A limiting factor is that PM inspections are based upon “RUN TIMES” or CALENDAR FREQUENCIES”. Preventive and repetitive programs need to focus on basics first! Then use predictive technologies for condition monitoring to determine the needs for corrective action.

Predictive maintenance is applying appropriate technologies to measure equipment operating characteristics, analyzing this data and developing specific “triggers” to anticipate events like misalignments, mechanical looseness, worn or spalled bearings. These specific “Triggers” are used to identify the need for action. Trained planners and engineers in the reliability group can then implement tools such as failure modes and effects analysis, statistical process controls and process improvement techniques to problem areas.
