An Action-Based Training Program to Improve Maintenance Planning and Scheduling Performance
Performance Consulting Associates (PCA) develops customized, interactive workshops for maintenance planners that focus on practical applications. Planners and supervisors participate in workshops, simulations, exercises and group discussions to implement a wide array of basic and advanced concepts that are used in plants throughout the country. The curriculum is designed for both experienced and new planners, front-line supervisors, and technicians who perform planning functions.
The course is both challenging and intense. We construct a positive, participative learning environment where each individual contributes to the group as well as their own knowledge enhancement. Each day typically begins sharply at 8 am and continues until the course work is completed, usually around 5 pm . The process involves a combination of lectures, breakout groups, roundtable discussions, practical exercises, and review of “live” documents from the plant. Most importantly, it includes an individual action plan of improvement for each participant.
There are six sessions grouped around core maintenance best business practices:
- 1. Work identification and control
- 2. Job planning
- 3. Job scheduling
- 4. Materials coordination
- 5. Preventive/predictive maintenance
- 6. Outage coordination
Effective Maintenance Planning:
One-on-One Coaching Make the Difference
PCA's program is different from others in that the individual training given to planners is in their own work environment. Each planner is given eight to ten hours of individual coaching broken down into two half-day sessions. This reinforces the classroom instruction to the planners as it relates to their own daily planning requirements. The primary purpose of the training is to improve each individual planner's performance in basic core competencies. To this end, the course facilitator works with each of the participants to develop an action plan for improving their own skills.
PCA's Training Programs are structured to develop Effective Maintenance Planning that includes: plant profile, customized training, classroom instruction, one-on-one coaching, improvement plan, presentation to management and value proposition.
Benefits of the Training
The results of the training program are reflected in increased profitability and skill enhancement within the plant environment, utilizing existing systems. Important elements of the training are:
